9 People Confirmed Dead in Masaka-Mbarara Highway Accident

Nine people on Friday died on spot in a fatal accident which happened at Kyoja trading Centre in Kinoni sub-county, Lwengo district along Masaka-Mbarara highway. The deadly accident is said to have happened at around 4:00pm.

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police spokesperson reported that the deceased included seven adults and two juveniles.

Nampiima said that the accident involved a head on collusion of vehicles, Alphard registration number UBL 314C and a fuel truck registration number SSD 327S/SSD 137Q.

Nampiima said that the Alphad car was traveling from Kampala heading to Mbarara whereas the fuel truck was from Mbarara/Kinoni town heading to Kampala side.

Mercy Nakaweesa, her husband Francis Bbale, an engineer with National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and their two children who were traveling in the Alphard car are said to have been among the deceased.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the Alphard driver was at high speed and was keeping right, where he crashed head on with the fuel tank killing nine people on spot who were passengers in the Alphard car,” Nampiima said.

The driver of the fuel truck and his turn man, sustained severe injuries and they were Masaka referral hospital for medical attention.

Nampiima warned the motorists traveling to upcountry for Easter celebrations to drive carefully, avoid speeding, phone driving, drink-driving and all other road indiscipline that result into accidents.
