Pope Francis Appoints Msgr. Mukasa New Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese

Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa had been appointed the new bishop of Luweero diocese by Pope Francis. Msgr. Mukasa, who has been the Vicar General of Kiyinda-Mityana diocese has been today (Saturday) April 29, 2023 announced by the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, Luigi Bianco.

The Kasana-Luweero diocese bishop seat fell vacant since December 2, 2021, following the appointment of Bp. Paul Ssemwogerere as the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese. Ssemwogerere replaced the late Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga. “The Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda has the Pleasure to announce that today April 29, 2023, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, had appointed the Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa Bishop of the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero,” read the written announcement by Bianco.
“The Apostolic Nunciature desires to congratulate the new Bishop, Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa and to invoke abundant blessings upon his pastoral ministry.
“The Apostolic Nunciature expresses sincere gratitude to Rev. Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga, elected Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Kasana-Luweero on January 28, 2022, for his generous service during the time of the vacancy of the Episcopal see.”
