Gov’t Vehicle Impounded Carrying 16 Jerrycans of Illicit Waragi

Police in Napak District have impounded a government motor vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries for misuse. The Mt Moroto Ag PRO AIP Longole Mike has identified the MV as a registration number UG 2524 A Toyota Hilux pickup, grey in colour.

Longole said that the vehicle which was loaded with 16 jerrycans of illicit waragi was being driven by Robert Wawomula.

The incident is said to have happened last evening on May 15, 2023 at around 6:00pm at Kokeris Check Point being manned by the Anti-Stock Theft Unit along Soroti-Moroto Road.

“The 16 Jerrycans of illicit waragi were covered in a tarpline which created a lot of suspicions as to which goods were being carried hence prompting the officers at the checkpoint to stop the motor vehicle for thorough check up,” Longole said.

He added: “Our personnel who are manning checkpoints have not been so keen on Government Vehicles; it has now come to our attention that even Government vehicles are also used in this illicit business,” he noted.

The above government vehicle was escorted by commander checkpoints to Moroto Central Police Station for further management whereas the two occupants, the driver and a one Erutu Lazarus are being detained to help Police in further investigations.

Longole condemned the misuse of government cars in such businesses saying the operation will not spare anyone found going against the law.
