Despite the energetic, entertaining and creative performances presented by the Uganda-based dance group, Ghetto Kids in the Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) competitions, they lost to the Norwegian comedian Viggo Venn.

After several weeks of auditions and live shows, the BGT grand final was held on Sunday June 4, 2023.

The Ghetto Kids have been some of the acts that took centre stage in the finals, having made it through the semi-finals where they won the public vote.

The group which has been performing together since 2014, delighted the audience at the finals with their break-dance routine to Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William, which was mixed in with the popular 2010 World Cup hit (Waka Waka) This Time For Africa by Shakira.

However, despite their best efforts to impress the judges and win £250,000 as well as a spot to play at the Royal Variety Performance, the Ghetto Kids’ endeavours were unsuccessful as they lost to Viggo Venn.

The Norwegian comedian Viggo Venn was crowned the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2023, scooping the £250,000 prize and a spot on the bill at the Royal Variety Performance.

Dancer Lilliana Clifton, 13, and 14-year-old magician Cillian O’Connor placed in second and third respectively. However, many Ugandans believe that by making it to that level, the Ghetto Kids are already winners though they missed out on the dollars. The talented dancing kids have also lifted Uganda and Africa at large so high. Well done the Ghetto Kids, Aluta Continua.
