Four People Die in a Fatal Road Accident

Four people have been recorded dead in a fatal road accident that occurred on Mityana-Mubende highway at Myanzi Trading Centre in Kassanda District. Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson has said that the accident that occurred at 3:00am during the wee hours of Sunday morning claimed four lives whereas three people sustained grave injuries.

Kawala has identified the injured as; Grace Nambuusi (40), a resident of Kikajjo Cell in Namasuba, Wakiso district, Patrick Bright (34), a businessman residing from Kibiri-Busaabala in Makindye Saabagabo division, Wakiso district and Lydia Naddunga, a businesswoman residing from Kaleerwe in Kampala.

“According to preliminary investigations, a black Fuso Fighter, registration number UAY 415C, loaded with matooke, heading towards Kampala from Mubende, experienced a brake failure. The vehicle lost control and overturned, resulting in the instantaneous death of four occupants and injuring three,” she reported.

By press time, Police had not yet identified the particulars of the deceased. Kawala said that the injured had been taken to Mityana Hospital for necessary medical care.

However, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kassanda Health Centre IV mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examinations.

The motor vehicle involved has been towed to Myanzi Police Station pending an Inspection of Vehicles’ (IOV) assessment.

“This tragic accident underscores the vital importance of responsible driving. Drivers are reminded not only to operate their vehicles prudently but also to ensure the maintenance and functionality of critical systems such as brakes before embarking on their journeys,” the Wamala Region Police spokesperson stressed.

She added: “Police urge all drivers to prioritize not only their safety but also that of their passengers and fellow road users.”
