The Kampala Metropolitan Police in Mukono Police Division are hunting for thugs who used stones to rob a gun from an armed police officer while on duty.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango says the incident happened at Mukono Railway Station in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district on Thursday night.
Onyango said that at around 10:30pm on September 14, 2023, at Kyetume Railway in Mukono, Police Constable Jamil Bikanda, attached to Railway Police which is opposite Bukasa Police Station was attacked by thugs who hit him using stones.
“Bikanda who was outside waiting for the train to escort it to Kampala was attacked by four thugs armed with stones. They hit him on the head leaving him unconscious, and they took off with his gun which had 24 rounds of ammunition,” he said.
Onyango says upon getting the information, Police responded to the scene of crime from where they picked the victim and rushed him to Kawolo Hospital for treatment.
He adds that they also used the sniffer dogs which they introduced to the scene but no recovery was recorded. Police registered a case of aggravated robbery on SD Ref. 14/14/09/23.
For that note, Police have sent a warning to all the District Police Commanders to take note of this incident and beef up security in their areas of jurisdiction.
