Link Bus Driver Arrested  for Driving While on WhatsApp

The Traffic Police have identified, intercepted and arrested the Link Bus driver who was recorded in a video which went viral on social media while chatting on WhatsApp as he was driving.

Michael Kananura, the Traffic and Road Safety Police spokesperson has identified the suspect as Andrew Jemba (43) who was driving a Link Bus registration number UBG 188P.

“Jemba was seen in the viral video using his phone while driving along Kampala – Fortportal road.  Our officers intercepted & arrested him at Kyegegwa Police Station on Wednesday at around 11:00am, November 1, 2023,” Kananura said.

He added that Jemba has been charged under Regulation 3(a) & 4 of Traffic and Road Safety (Restriction of Use of Mobile Telephone) Regulations, 2004.

“The Police thus commend the public for their vigilance on road safety and call upon everyone to continue reporting and sharing any information on traffic violations on roads on our toll-free 0800199099. We continue to sound a  warning to all motorists who use mobile phones while driving as this has been seen as one of the causes of road crashes in the country,” he said.
