One Arrested over Disappearance of 3yr-Old Daughter

Wamala Region Police has in detention one person following the disappearance of a three-year-old girl.

Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson has identified the victim as Nanyondo Sharifa, a 3-year-old female and daughter of Kiyemba Ismail and Nankinga Betty.

Kawala says Nanyondo disappeared on November 7, 2023 at around 1:00pm at Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division in Mityana district.

She has identified the suspect as Hamidah Najjembe who is expected to assist Police in the on-going investigations.

“It is alleged that Nakimera, the maid to Najjemba Hamidah, who had been in the area for only two days, may have trafficked the victim. Nakimera was allegedly brought to Kikumbi Cell by Najjemba Hamidah,” Police spokesperson Kawala said.

She said that the disappearance case was reported at Namukozi Police Post on November 7, 2023 at 6:27pm by Bakajjube Zaverio, a 46-year-old male resident of Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division in Mityana District.

According to the report, Bakajjube Zaverio’s granddaughter, Nanyondo Sharifa, a 3-year-old female and daughter of Kiyemba Ismail and Nankinga Betty, disappeared on 7/11/2023 around 1300hrs at Kikumbi Cell, Busimbi Division in Mityana district.

It is alleged that the child was last seen in the company of Najemba Hamidah’s maid (a neighbor).

“Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect hails from the areas of Banda in Mityana District. Search efforts are underway to recover the victim and apprehend the suspect. Anyone with information leading to the recovery of the victim and the arrest of the suspect is urged to call the toll-free number 0800300118 or report to the nearest police station,” Kawala said.
