The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has consecrated and installed Canon Moses Banja as the 6th bishop of Namirembe diocese.

In a well-attended consecration service, held at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe, Canon Moses Banja and Maama Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja has now fully been installed as the bishop of Namirembe diocese after going through a number of Church of Uganda norms and traditions.

The Archbishop Kaziimba has said that unlike other mushrooming religious sects whose leaders just wake up and call themselves bishops, for the Church of Uganda, they go through a well-known set of programs and arrangements.

After his installation, Bp. Banja introduced his family members that included his wife, Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja, who is the Vice Chancellor of Ndejje University and their children.

After his installation, Bp. Banja has addressed the guests giving his charge highlighting a number of things he is to put emphasis on during his tenure.

They include fighting land grabbing which has eaten up most of the church land blocking hope for new Church projects and expansion of the already existing ones.

“I am calling upon the government and President Museveni in particular to come to our rescue as far as this stressful challenge is concerned,” he urged.

Bp. Banja also showed dismay to the moral decadence which is so rampant today adding that what is unfortunate is the fact that the vice has also eaten up the education institutions.

He said one of his eminent assignments is seeing that religion is given a platform in schools so that children can be able to know God.

“I am to ensure that we start small scale businesses where our Christians can earn a living from and this will be implemented through getting the help of the government,” he said.

The function is attended by a number of dignitaries; the Vice President Jessica Alupo who is representing the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Nabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, among others.
