Kakira Rugby Club Inaugural Schools Rugby Tournament, held at the Kakira Rugby Club grounds has proved to be a resounding success, displaying the passion and talent of young rugby players from the community.

With a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship, the tournament brought together primary and secondary schools in a celebration of rugby excellence. The organizers arranged the tournament in three categories that include; primary, ladies and secondary.

The primary schools’ category attracted eight schools which competed fiercely for the trophy, with St. John emerging as the ultimate champions.

The ladies’ category had Kakira High School female team emerging victorious after overcoming stiff

competition from three other schools in what stood as a very competitive category.

Senior Boys Category:

In a very tightly contested final, Kakira High School clinched the trophy against St. John’s Wakitaka, showcasing their skill and determination on the field.

For many schools, this tournament marked their first foray into competitive rugby, highlighting the spirit of courage and determination among players stepping onto the field for the first time.

The enthusiastic support from fans further underscored the sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship that defined the day’s events.

Coaches associated with Kakira Rugby Club have been working with 25 schools and their teachers over the last several weeks, holding coaching sessions and introducing these young students to the fundamentals of rugby.

The peak of the effort at the tournament has been a positive experience for all.  Amidst the excitement of the tournament, Kakira Rugby Club ensured the well-being of all participants by providing lunch for players, referees, and support staff.

The inclusive nature of the event fostered a sense of unity and friendship among attendees, further enhancing the community spirit of the tournament.

Jibu water kindly supported and sponsored the event providing water for the participants and

without their support this event wouldn’t have been possible. We owe a great deal of gratitude to them for believing in this venture.

Support from the Uganda Rugby Union has also been immensely important through offering Match Officials and equipment (Balls) to the Schools so that they can continue to develop their rugby offerings going forward.

The event also doubled as the launch of the club in the area. Kakira rugby club has been launched and this tournament secures a sustainable source for our player base and will soon be fielding teams at senior, ladies and age grade level for the Eastern Uganda Rugby 7’S and the 15’s.

The day ended with the presentation ceremony, presided over by Upcountry representatives from the Uganda Rugby Union, Jibu Water, Kakira Rugby Club, and Jinja Media.

The Kakira Rugby Club Inaugural Schools Rugby Tournament was not only a showcase of sporting prowess but also a testament to the power of community collaboration and support. With a record attendance of supporters from Kakira which we will build from to get a formidable community fan base for the Club.
