Balaam Calls for S.5 Students Running Businesses to Apply for YLP Funds

The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahare has appealed to the youth to stay away from acts of impunity if they are to become great champions of tomorrow.

Balaam urged the S.5 young boys who could be having small-scale businesses back home to interest themselves into free revolving funds like the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and the rest would be history.

Balaam, Commissioner Seku and other guests inspecting the parade.

He added that the YLP initiative was cleverly intended by the government of Uganda to combat the accelerating rates of unemployment and poverty among the youths in the country and perhaps create sustainable solutions and opportunities for the younger generation.

“Currently, 458 youth projects in Kampala have been funded and over 5000 youths across all the five divisions have benefited since its inception in 2014,” said the Minister as he made a reference to the statistics for the YLP in Kampala City.

Barugahara made the remarks on Thursday afternoon at Ntare School in Mbarara City North Constituency where he was the chief guest during the pass out event of 830 patriots who completed a seven-day patriotism training course that was gazetted for only S.1 and S.5 students.

The Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) in the office of the President applauded the stakeholders for accepting to leave their children behind for an extra seven days off the term to go through the training.

Seku who is also the Private Secretary of the President on youth affairs also commended the resilience the patriots displayed throughout the training and urged them to love their country and shun every evil that might come their way.

Saul Rwampororo, the Head teacher of Ntare School believes after the training, the school is going to receive a new brand of students next term.

Hundreds of people including Jedd Bangizi the very first African head teacher of the school, Deputy Chairman Board of governors, local, religious leaders, Old Boys, parents graced the occasion.
