Gov’t Hands Over Nine Vehicles to Local Gov’ts Under Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area

The Ministry of Local Government witnessed a significant milestone as Minister  Raphael Magyezi and Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya handed over nine vehicles to the nine implementing entities of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

These entities include Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso, Mpigi, Nansana, Kira, Entebbe, Makindye Ssabagabo, and Kampala in their respective municipalities.

Uganda has embarked on a five-year program aimed at addressing the numerous challenges facing the Kampala Metropolitan Area, including traffic congestion, lack of planning, and flooding. With the support of the African Development Bank and the World Bank, this program has secured a substantial funding of $608.6 million.

Today’s handover ceremony marked a step forward in implementing this program, which promises to transform the lives of citizens in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) includes the Kampala city center and the inner suburbs, the outer dormitory towns and suburbs, peripheral towns and peri urban extension to Mukono, Wakiso and Mpigi districts.

Also at the Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala, during the CAOs and Town Clerks of Cities and Municipalities quarterly meeting, Minister of State, Honourable Victoria Rusoke Businge has presented laptops to CAOs, City and Municipality clerks to aid them in managing Parish Development Model Information System and other digitized PDM processes.

The 163 laptops were procured by the Ministry of ICT and National guidance in fulfilment of pillar 7 of PDM.
