The 28-year-old lawyer, Mahad Gumirason, on Thursday evening succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was attacked by a panga-wielding gang about two weeks ago in Mityana district.

Following the attack, Gumirason was rushed to Rubaga Hospital, but did not make it. Family members said Gumirason’s murder is linked to a land case that he was handling within the area.

At the time of his death, he also served as the Mityana district councillor, representing the youth.

On Friday, Wamala Police region spokesperson Rachael Kawala said they were investigating the matter.

“He was attacked by unknown people in Mityana and was severely injured.

He was taken to Kampala for treatment. It is unfortunate he has passed on, but we are determined to find the perpetrators so that they can face justice,” she said.

Kawala said initial reports indicate the lawyer was attacked by thugs whose intention was to rob him.

The attack comes in the wake of increased attacks on pedestrians by thieves.

In the most recent chilling event, the Police said they had arrested two suspects who were involved in the assault and robbery of a pedestrian on Wednesday, May 22, in downtown Kampala.

The disturbing incident, captured on CCTV cameras and widely shared on social media, involved a man identified as Tomson Mugisha, a resident of Kyebando in Kampala, who was attacked on Ben Kiwanuka Street at around 8:00pm.
