Police in Kiboga district are holding a 42-year-old female witchdoctor on charges of alleged ritual murder of the 11-year-old girl.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala has identified the suspect as Madinah Nakyeyune, a resident of Kirurumba Cell in Kiboga Town Council and the deceased as Oliver Namanda, a pupil at Fairway Nursery and Primary School residing at Buzibwera village in Kiboga district.

Some of the body parts recovered from the scene of crime.

Kawala said that preliminary findings indicated that on June 10, 2024, at around 10:00pm, the victim left home to Kiboga town for vending boiled fresh maize. She was dressed in a yellow T-shirt and black skirt.

The deceased’s relatives told police that from then, she disappeared for good without going back home, something which prompted them to report a case to police on June 11, and the search efforts started.

“On the 12th day of June 2024 at around 11:30am, the body parts of Namanda were seen by a young boy who had gone to collect grass for animals from the kibanja of one Ssekandi in Kirurumba cell and informed the parents,” Kawala reports adding;

“We were later informed about the incident by the area village chairperson and immediately our task team led by DPC Kiboga responded to the scene of the crime. At the scene of crime internal organs including lungs, heart amongst others had been removed out of the body.”

Police further revealed that the deceased’s abdomen was cut off from the legs and taken away. However, the two legs were all abandoned at the crime scene. The body parts have been recovered and taken to kiboga hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

Police have also recovered exhibits including the deceased’s underpants and a black skirt.

The Police detectives introduced the sniffer dog to the crime scene and it led them into a shrine at Kirurumba cell belonging to Nakyeyune Madinah.

Kawala has confirmed Nakyeyune’s arrest saying she is currently detained at Kiboga Police station pending investigations.

“Search efforts are on to recover the missing body parts. Our task teams are doing all it takes to have more suspects arrested and brought to book,” she said.

She urged parents to be cautious about their children’s safety in and outside their homes.
