Fourteen Market Vendors Perish in Fatal Accident

Eleven people were on Wednesday pronounced dead on spot in a fatal accident that occurred at Namilyango village along Mityana-Bukuya road.

Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson confirmed the sad news saying that three other casualties also died from the health facilities where they were rushed in critical condition.

Kawala said that the traffic Police in Kassanda are investigating the cause of this accident that occurred on June 19, 2024 at around 1:30pm.

She highlighted that the accident involved a Isuzu forward truck, Registration number UBA 605A, silver in color, which was traveling from Mityana Town to Bukuya with market vendors on board.

“The driver, who has not been identified, lost control of the vehicle on a slope, causing it to overturn, resulting in the death of 11 people on spot. Others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mityana Hospital and Bukuya Health Centre IV for treatment,” she said.

Ttraffic officers are reported to have visited the scene of the accident and conveyed the bodies of the deceased persons to Mityana hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The vehicle was towed to Kassanda Police Station for further inspection.
