Police are hunting for unknown armed assailants who raided the home of Somali nationals shooting one dead, leaving another one critically injured.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson identified the deceased as Laban Mohammad and the victim as Yassan Mohammad, who are residents of Kisingiri zone in Bukesa Parish, Rubaga division. Owoyesigyire says, at around 3:00am, on Tuesday morning, unknown assistants armed with a pistol broke into the Somali’s house from behind and started robbing them of their property.

“Laban and Yassan out of the blue woke up seeing one of the assailants in their bedroom. They tried to ask him who he was and what he had gone for. Without getting a clear answer, they tried to attack him, prompting him to shoot at them,” he said. It is alleged that Laban was shot on the head from the left hand side whereas Yassan was shot on the left shoulder. The robber therefore took off leaving Laban unconscious.

Owoyesigyire said the duo were put in a vehicle and rushed to Mengo Hospital, where Laban was latter pronounced dead. Police said that they swung into action after getting the report and visited the scene of crime with a team of detectives and a sniffer dog though it did not do much as the scene had already been contaminated. Police confirmed that over six people, all Somali nationals were residing in this home. The detectives recovered two empty cartridge casings from the scene.
