The bishop emeritus of Lugazi diocese, Mathias Ssekamanya has on Sunday June 25, 2023 conducted a mass wedding of 11 couples as St. Paul Catholic Parish celebrated their 26th anniversary.
The couples include; Moses Musanje who was formerly a bodaboda rider before one of his legs was amputated following a road accident. Musanje has been wedded with his fiancé, Proscovia Nalwoga.
A Rastafarian, Emmanuel Kasule has also tied the knot with Victoria Kisakye, an old man, Atanansi Batasingwa has been wedded with his wife, Betty Humura.
The believers were heard whispering to each other asking how Rasta Kasule got married in church with his dreadlocks. But one of them reasoned saying this is not the first couple to be wedded with dreadlocks giving reference of National Unity Platform President and a Musician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine and Joseph Mayanja alias Chameleon who were also wedded with the same hair style.
While delivering his homily, Bp. Ssekamanya asked the newly wedded couples to stick to their partners and completely avoid multiple lovers.
“Avoid over drinking, gambling and adultery. Stick to your partners whom you have willingly chosen from the many,” he urged.
The bishop led them into the marriage vows saying: “I will love you and honour you all the days of my life. I, (name), take you, (name) for my lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better , for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”
The day has been graced by a number of dignitaries including; Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakireke, municipal mayor, Erisa Mukasa Nkoyoyo, Mukono Central division chairperson, Robert Peter Kabanda. The guest of honour, the Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo has delegated his wife, Mrs. Rose Muyingo.
MP Nambooze told the bishop that unlike men, every woman desires to be wedded in church or mosque but their husbands in most of the times disappoint them.
About the current trend of women who have exhibited disloyalty to their husbands through the DNA tests which have found many children who are outside the official marriages saying that happens on both sides.
“Mr. Bakireke, my husband, was not kind about women saying, how come a DNA is taken and finds out that out of the six children, no one is for the official husband. But also men are not faithful, they keep giving birth to children outside marriage but we do not blow it out of proportion as men do to women,” she said.
The legislator advised parents to stop abandoning their children saying if they fail to direct them into the right path at the right age, they are exposed to the mushrooming immorality including homosexuality which is easting up the young generation.
Mrs. Muyingo showed gratitude to Fr. Ssebitoogo for having championed the leadership of the parish for the last over two decades saying the development witnessed is highly attributed to his hard work.
“I also take this opportunity to thank Bp. Ssekamanya continued service to the diocese even after his retirement. We just can’t take it for granted, may God bless you for this service above self,” she said.
Mrs. Muyingo delivered the sh5m which the Minister donated to the parish to help in other developments.
The mass was also attended by a number of Reverend Fathers including; Fr. Joseph Nambago from Jinja diocese, Fr. Gerald Ssekanga from Canada, Fr. Moses Oboth from St. Paul’s Parish and Fr. Benedict Mugerwa, the National Youth Chaplain. Others were; Fr. Ignatius Nkoyoyo from Serengeti National Park Parish in Tanzania, Fr. Mathew Kabale, Fr. Anthony Kizito, the assistant parish priest St. Paul Parish and Fr. Everest Katerega, the Lugazi diocese youth chaplain.
