Mityana-Mubende Highway Accident Claims Four Lives

Four people have been confirmed dead following an accident which occurred on Mityana-Mubende highway.

The accident is said to have happened during the wee hours of the night on Wednesday at Mumusa village in Mityana district.

The accident involved motor vehicles Isuzu Elf registration number UBH 369J which had a head on collision with a Fuso truck number UBK 415N which was coming from Mityana heading to Mubende district.

Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson says that the driver for a Fuso truck who is currently on the run tried to overtake a trailer and ended up ramming into the Elf which was loaded with sand.

Kawala has confirmed that the Elf driver, Robert Bukenya, a resident of Naama village in Mityana and three other people who were in the Elf died instantly. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mityana General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Kawala has said that the hunt for the Fuso truck driver has commenced. The police have cleared the scene of the accident and taken the involved vehicles to Mityana police.

Hundreds of people continue to in road accidents on a daily basis in different parts of the country.

According to traffic police monthly reports, these accidents are caused by a number of reasons including drink driving, reckless driving, poor roads in some parts of the country, among other reasons.
