The Aswa Region West in Gulu district has arrested a step brother who allegedly defiled and killed his eleven-year-old sister.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson has identified the suspect as Richard Rubangakene (20), a peasant of Coopil village in Angaya parish, Unyama sub-county in Gulu district and the deceased Angel Agenorwat, a pupil at Coopil Primary School in Gulu district.

Police say that the suspect on September 14, 2023, at around 2:00pm, asked his step sister to go and pick up plates from the house where he followed her up.

“Immediately as Angel entered the house, the suspect followed, grabbed and violently defiled the victim. After the forceful sexual act, he picked a hammer and hit her head, killing her instantly. The killer weapon was recovered,” Enanga said.

He stressed that the horrific murder of an innocent Agenorwat is a reminder of the dangers young girls face, even before their siblings.

“Children below the age of 12 years are not mature enough to defend themselves. It is important to always keep an eye on them,” he said.
