The Police in Aswa West and Gulu West has in custody Four students from Gulu West Division for attacking and beating to death a man they suspected to have had love affairs with a school girl.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson reports that the students attacked and beaten to death a one Rubangakene Samuel (29), a resident of Airfields cell, Bardego ward, in Gulu City over a girl.
The incident is reported to have happened on October 10, 2023 at around 5:40am.
Enanga says the suspects were returning from a Disco hall. The body of the deceased was retrieved from the roadside between Gulu Army Senior School and St. Jude Orphanage Primary School.
Police have identified the four suspects as; Rubangakene Paul David, (18), Okot Ivan Anthony (18), Lual Deng Dit (18), a South Sudan student and Opoka Ammalon, a 15-year-old male juvenile. The body of the deceased was taken to hospital for postmortem.
And in a separate development, the Territorial Police in Greater Bushenyi and Sheema, have in custody seven students on charges of inciting violence.
The police spokesman, Fred Enanga has identified the affected school as Nganwa High School in Kabwohe.
“It has been a traditional at the school, where S.4 students are beaten by students from the rest of the classes, as a way of bidding them farewell. This time round the S.4 candidates, organised themselves and attacked students from other classes that sparked off serious clashes among students within the school,” Enanga says.
However Enanga says that the police from Sheema responded and restored sanity at the school.
At least seven ring leaders all from Senior Four were identified and arrested. These include; Nuwasharamu Propser (18), Andinda Roden (18) Nganzi Owen (18), Kato Timothy (18) Akandwanaho Allan (19), Nuwasiima Saul (17) and Matama Samuel.
Enanga says the incident on October 9, 2023 at around 10:00pm.
“The student victims who were injured during the fights were rushed to Sheema hospital for treatment. These include; Aruho Benon (19), S.4 student and Mustafa an S.5 student,” the polices spokesperson said.
“We strongly condemn these acts of violence by students and we call upon all school administrators to remind students of the importance of resisting peer pressure to act responsibly,” Enanga said.
