The Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, has visited Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya, who is currently admitted in hospital with health complications.
Ssegirinya is admitted at Nsambya Hospital where he was rushed in critical condition.
“I have this afternoon visited our colleague, Hon. Ssegirinya to convey my heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery,” posted Among on X, formerly Twitter.
“I am delighted to announce that Ssegirinya has made a remarkable recovery. His strength and determination throughout this challenging period has been truly commendable.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the medical team, and to everyone who has supported him during this time. We look forward to receiving him back to serve his community with renewed energy.”
The Speaker attached several photos documenting the visit on Friday.
Ssegirinya, legislator of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is currently admitted at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital.
Early this year, he was flown to Germany and the Netherlands, where he received medication for liver and kidney ailments.
His colleagues in Kampala described his current situation as worrying.
“I went to see Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad at the hospital, his condition is absolutely alarming!” said Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko on social media.
“How can the courts still hold onto his passport, knowing the dire state he’s in? The court should immediately return his passport, so he can receive the necessary treatment.
“I urge you all to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to demand justice.”
Ssegirinya and his Makndye West counterpart Allan Ssewanyana are battling a case in High Court in Masaka in which they are accused of of masterminding several murders.
The legislators, currently out on bail, are accused alongside five others namely: Mike Sserwadda, Jude Muwonge, Bull Wamala, John Mugerwa and Jackson Kanyike.
They are accused of murder, attempted murder, aiding and abetting terrorism stemming from the 2021 spate of killings in Masaka and Lwengo districts of Greater Masaka region.
Early this year, the legislators were given freedom by chief state attorney, Richard Birivumbuka, who told court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had issued a certificate of no objection to the bail application and subsequently asked that the three affidavits filed against the bail application be withdrawn.
