The House of Bishops sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Center has today Wednesday March 6, 2024 elected Rev. Canon Wilson Kisekka as the fourth of Luweero diocese.
Canon Kisekka who is taking over from Bp. Eridard Nsubuga will be enthroned on Sunday March 24, 2024 at St. Mark Cathedral in Luweero district.
He has been serving under Mukono diocese as the Archdeacon of Ndeeba Archdeaconry in Kayunga district.

The House of Bishops first elected Canon Godfrey Kasana Ssemakula as the fourth bishop of Luweero diocese but later nullified his election during their meeting on 28th June 2023 at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima.

The extraordinary decision was taken because credible information was received that the Bishop-elect’s integrity was misrepresented during the nomination and election process, which invalidated the election.

Through a section of Christians, Canon Kasana contested his nullification claiming he had not been given a fair hearing. The case did not see green light as it was dismissed by the High Court where Kasana had resorted for justice.

The Principal Judge Flavian Zeija ruled that the petitioners had taken the case against the wrong party and wondered how they claimed the petition against Kasana hadn’t been processed yet they were not a party to it nor the person whom they claimed to represent.

Zeija added that the Anglican Church has canon laws that provides how the Bishop is appointed and how disputes relating to the elections are resolved.

“Once you subscribe to a certain faith you must go by its tenets. The respondents subscribe to the Anglican faith. It’s not the business of the court to entertain disputes relating to the consecration of the Bishop and cannot appoint a Bishop for the Church. That is a spiritual matter for which the court cannot claim to be competent. The Anglican Church in Uganda has all necessary bodies to resolve such disputes,” the ruling reads in part.

Zeija granted Kaziimba’s application before ordering that the main suit be dismissed and each party caters for its own costs to promote reconciliation in the church.

Rev. Canon Kasana Ssemakula’s election was nullified after a section of Christians led by Kenneth R. Kikabi, a congregant at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Luweero diocese petitioned Archbishop Kaziimba accusing Kasana of siring a child outside the wedlock in contravention of Ten commandments and canon laws.
